The Building Blocks for Language and Literacy (BBL) program is focused on the importance of early identification and intervention through community screenings and education. BBL is an initiative created by HSDC’s board certified, licensed speech-language pathologists (SLP) to help children achieve age appropriate speech-language skills and to help parents, caregivers and educators understand the importance in daily language facilitation. As part of this program, and SLP will come to your child’s daycare and/or preschool program to screen children ages 3-5 for speech-language delay/disorders. A detailed report will be sent home to the parents with information regarding the screening and recommendations for follow-up. In addition, an SLP travels to various parent groups, staff meeting and educational conferences to present on the risk factors for speech-language disorders and ways to facilitate speech, language and literacy in the child’s everyday environment.
