Assistive Listening Devices

Assistive Listening Devices (ALDs) are devices used instead of or in addition to hearing aids. Very basically, they are objects commonly used by normal hearing people that have been modified to benefit those with varying degrees of hearing loss…from mild to profound. Examples of such include amplified telephones, vibrating alarm clocks, flashing doorbells, etc. Typically devices are either amplified, visual, vibrating…or a combination of all 3.

The Center maintains a working display of all of the most popular and best working devices. Make an appointment with our ALD audiologist to come in and try some of these today. She will take you through the room and evaluate what best meets your need.

Business and other institutions are also encouraged to consult with our audiologists about making the workplace a barrier free environment that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Understanding that these devices are critical for people to maintain independence, we are fortunate to have funding from the Bahmann Foundation to assist older adults who have financial concerns obtain consultations and ALDs.
